According to a new research, your dog can help you to get better sleep at night. Keeping your pets in your bedroom can increase your quality of sleep. In the UK, dogs are known as the most popular pet.
However, the team of researchers at Mayo Clinic in the US found that sharing your bed and snuggling with pets can negatively affect your sleep quality. Over five months, they evaluated sleep of around 40 healthy participants with lack of sleep disorders and their dogs.
Researchers attached activity trackers to around 40 participants and their dogs to track their sleeping activity for seven nights. Some people got better sleep with dogs, researchers said.
They discovered that participants who snuggled up to their dogs in bed loosed quality sleep. Lois Krahn, from Mayo Clinic, said, “Do not let your canines crawl under the covers with you. The sleep benefit extends only to having dogs in your bedroom- not in your bed,”
While Researchers analyzed a small group of participants and dogs, they said that the relationship between adults and their pets is now changing, so that many people are choosing to sleep with their pets in the bedroom.
Krahn said, “Today, many people are away from their pets for much of the day, so they want to maximize their time with them when they are home.” “Having them in the bedroom at night is an easy way to do that. And, now, pet owners can find comfort knowing it won’t negatively impact their sleep,” she added.
