PV Sindhu, badminton player won at the Rio Olympics silver medal and bagged an endorsement of Rs 50 crore. This is a three year endorsement deal she received from various companies, reported TOI.
The report informs the deals are signed with sports marketing, Baseline Ventures, entertainment and now a brand licensing firm is managing her brand licensing and profiling.
Tuhin Mishra, the company’s managing director told the newspaper that Sindhu will be the best non-cricketer sports person to get the best offers. Nearly, 16 companies queued to get Sindhu for endorsements and now nine are short listed.
The remarkable fact about the deal is that she will not endorse brands having a ‘negative’ influence such as cola brands, informs the report. Regardless of the valuable deals she is receiving, Sindhu has decided all these will not hinder her practice and she will give limited time for commercials.
“She has won an Olympics medal and this reveals her tremendous grit,” told Harish Bijoor, Chief Executive Officer of Harish Bijoor Consults Inc, brand and business strategy firm Harish Bijoor.
However, earlier Olympic medal winners such as Abhinav Bindra and Rajyavardhan Rathore also got little success in bagging big-bang endorsement deals. In comparison, Sindhu’s deal win is enormous.
Two non-cricketer sports women, Saina Nehwal, 2012 Olympics bronze medalist and Sania Mirza, tennis star got good endorsement deals. However, as per Forbes celeb list 2015, Saina’s endorsement earning was Rs.16.99 crore and Sania earned Rs.13.25 crore.
As per the ToI report, Sindhu’s earnings this year is sure to surpass both these sports persons.
