IRCTC, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, a government-controlled Indian Railways subsidiary, has introduced initiatives in September to enhance commute experience for travelers as well as develop the area economy. IRCTC, began with 29 tickets booking a day in 2002, and now is booking 1.45 million tickets a day.

IRCTC Mumbai at five local train stations to get pizza-on-the-go. This is done to satiate the Mumbaikars hunger pangs in local trains. IRCTC has announced instant pizza vending machines installation at five major stations namely, Kalyan, Andheri, and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Kurla, CST and Mumbai Central. Now people can enjoy thin crust pizzas prepared in vending machines in five minutes. The process is transparent right from dough kneading to baking.
Furthering Kashmiri dry fruits to help the J & K Self Help Groups, IRCTC will be facilitating the dry fruits sale from the state and set up sales outlets in Jammu and Katra railway stations. Customers can buy dry fruits from the e-commerce site of IRCTS and also from the Jan Aahar facility.
Book your train ticket through Paytm and avail the mobile wallet service. Paytm is already offering air ticketing and bus bookings from 2012 and is now allowing train ticket booking.
Travel insurance for train passengers booking through IRCTC website. The premium is Re.1 right now for all classes. The compensation is Rs.10 lakh in case of death or total disability and Rs.7.5 lakh for partial or permanent disability, hospitalization expenses for Rs. 2 lakh and transportation of mortal for Rs.10,000 in case of death events due to train accident and this also includes rioting, dacoity, terrorist attacks, etc.
